At the end of November last year, Minister of Environmental Affairs Edna Molewa approved the Redisa (Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of South Africa) Waste Tyre Management Plan for immediate implementation. This plan replaces the Redisa one that was suspended in terms of an interdict granted on 20 November 2012

The South African protea industry has welcomed the release of a new book, Protea Cultivation: From Concept to Carton, by Dr Gerhard Malan. Malan is a well-known fynbos consultant with many years of practical experience in protea cultivation, both nationally and internationally. 

Worldwide, up to two billion people lack food security – with about 925 million chronically hungry due to extreme poverty. Six million children die of hunger every year, which equates to 17 000 every day.

The 51-year-old Piet Green is an avid cyclist who has completed several cycle races on the hot Northern Cape roads. His dream is to complete the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour one day, and he is prepared to hit the long road to Cape Town with his bike in order to partake in this event.

South African growers have delivered the first packages of English language reading- and textbooks to farming schools in the Western Cape. Books were collected along with entries to the Help A South African School competition.
