Beijing Automobile Works (BAW) in South Africa has announced the opening of a minibus taxi assembly factory in Springs in a move that is likely to shake up the sub-Saharan market for these vehicles, currently dominated by Toyota.

Tshwane’s automotive cluster is to be given a boost with the establishment of the R50 million Gauteng Automotive Training Academy (Gata) in Rosslyn which will be able to accommodate 1 000 students a year.
