Cape Town has been named second-best city in the world and best city in Africa by readers of US-based travel resource Condé Nast Traveller. The 25th annual Readers' Choice awards were recently announced by Condé Nast, after close to 50 000 readers took part in the survey.

This week marks the start of the annual World Travel Market (WTM) taking place in London until 9 November. It is one of the leading global events for the travel industry and will be attended by some 45 000 senior travel industry professionals, government ministers and international media. 

The landscapes in and around the business hub of Gauteng are often perceived as desolate and unattractive without much opportunity for any real respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Well, the truth is that although Gauteng may not offer hiking trails as scenic as those you might find elsewhere in the country, you can still get out and enjoy wildlife, indigenous vegetation, spectacular botanical gardens, bird sanctuaries and nature reserves as well as an authentic treasure trove of archaeological and geological sites.

It was pouring with rain in Cape Town when we left for the launch of the recently revamped Two Oceans Restaurant at Cape Point. But as anyone who lives in Cape Town knows it can be four seasons in one day so optimism prevailed as we headed off to the point where African currents collide. And we were rewarded – the sunshine glittered across a calm view of False Bay giving guests reason to be proud of this, one of the most visited tourism hotspots in the Cape.
